Walking into the hair product aisle can be overwhelming. Pomades, waxes, clays, gels, pastes... what's the difference? And more importantly, which one is right for you? Let's clear up the confusion.
Pomade
Pomade is great for classic, slicked-back styles. It offers high shine and varying degrees of hold. Water-based pomades wash out easily, while oil-based ones offer superior hold but can be harder to remove. Ideal for thick or curly hair.
Wax
Hair wax provides a medium to strong hold with a more natural, matte finish. It's excellent for adding texture and definition to shorter styles. It doesn't harden like gel, so you can restyle throughout the day.
Gel
Gel is the old reliable for maximum hold and high shine. However, cheap gels can flake and leave hair feeling crunchy. Use it sparingly for spikes or very structured styles.
Clay
Clay is a newer favorite. It adds thickness and volume with a very matte finish. It's perfect for fine or thinning hair as it makes it look fuller.
